Position Summary

Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) is the major provider of specialist health services in the Gippsland region, east of Melbourne.  Our comprehensive range of services extends to emergency and intensive care, elective surgery, allied health, obstetrics, medical and radiation oncology at the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre, dialysis and aged care.

 

LRH has a number of outstanding facilities following a recent expansion. These include a cardiac catheterisation laboratory, large Emergency Department, endoscopy suites and modern and contemporary inpatient units. These complement extensive Allied Health amenities including a gym and pool.

 

LRH is the regional provider of mental health services in Gippsland. LRH Mental Health Service operates an integrated specialist mental health program across the region and provides inpatient and community mental health care for adults, children and young people and older persons.

 

We are currently seeking a Paediatric Registrar to join our paediatric team consisting of 5 Paediatric Consultants, 3 Advanced Paediatric Trainees and a junior team providing 24-hour on-site paediatric cover.

 

The Latrobe Regional Hospital Paediatric Unit has a 10-bed Inpatient Unit and a 6-bed Special Care Nursery treating infants down to 32 weeks gestation. Funding has been provided by the State Government to construct a new Special Care Nursery with the ability to care for up to 12 infants. A new Emergency Department with a dedicated paediatric treatment area is now open.

 

Visiting tertiary paediatric specialist clinics include Paediatric Surgery, Endocrinology, Cardiology and Genetics.

 

There are approximately 1700 paediatric admissions and 900 deliveries a year with over 400 admissions and referrals to the Special Care Nursery (SCN).

 

All five consultant paediatricians have special interests in different areas including Neonatology, Behavioural medicine, Endocrinology, Emergency paediatrics, oncology and pain medicine.

 

The successful applicant will have experience working in a Special Care Nursery including skills in basic neonatal resuscitation and will hold general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.  This position can be adapted to suit a suit all levels from a junior registrar to advanced trainee.

Selection Criteria Essential: Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent
Essential: General registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
Essential: At least 3 months Australian experience working in a Special Care Nursery (Neonatal Paediatrics) caring for infants down to 32 weeks gestation
Essential: Experience in basic neonatal resuscitation
Desirable: Current, or future intention to join, trainee of RACP (Paediatrics) or General practice (RACGP / ACRRM)
