Graduate Nurse Program 2019 - collaborative program between Latrobe Regional Hospital and Latrobe Community Health Service, commencing May 2019
Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) is the major provider of specialist health services in the Gippsland region, east of Melbourne. Our comprehensive range of services extends to emergency and intensive care, elective surgery, allied health, obstetrics, medical and radiation oncology at the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre, dialysis and aged care. LRH has a number of outstanding facilities following a recent expansion. These include a cardiac catheterisation laboratory, large Emergency Department, endoscopy suites and modern and contemporary inpatient units. These complement extensive Allied Health amenities including a gym and pool. LRH is the regional provider of mental health services in Gippsland. LRH Mental Health Service operates an integrated specialist mental health program across the region and provides inpatient and community mental health care for adults, children and young people and older persons.
Latrobe Community Health Service (LCHS) is one of Australia’s fastest growing health services, providing coordinated services that include community-based health promotion programs, daily living and rehabilitation assistance, health checks and healthcare plans, medical care and nursing care in various fields. LCHS provides extensive District Nursing and community-based Palliative Care Nursing services.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified Graduate Nurses to join the Collaborative Graduate Nurse Program between Latrobe Regional Hospital and Latrobe Community Health Service on a Fixed Term Part Time basis. The contract will be 64 hours per fortnight, for eight months in the Medical and Surgical Units at Latrobe Regional Hospital, and for a further four months in District Nursing and Palliative Care at Latrobe Community Health Service. Completing this program will enable the Graduate Nurse to experience the full continuum of health care.
Reporting to the Coordinator of the Graduate Nurse Program at Latrobe Regional Hospital, and to the Manager Ambulatory Services at Latrobe Community Health Service, the successful applicant will play an important role in provision of patient care at both facilities
The successful applicant will be required to:
- Complete an eight-month rotation at Latrobe Regional Hospital and a further four-month rotation at Latrobe Community Health Service
- Work as part of the nursing and multidisciplinary team
- Be responsible for allocated patients
- Complete two performance appraisals
- Undertake mandatory assessments
- Attend seven Graduate Nurse Study Days
