Exciting medical leadership opportunity in regional health care

 

Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) is the major provider of specialist health services in the Gippsland region, east of Melbourne.  Our comprehensive range of services includes general and subspecialty medicine, general and subspecialty surgery and orthopaedics and extends to emergency and intensive care, perinatal services, medical and radiation oncology and haematology at the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre, dialysis and aged care.

 

LRH has a number of outstanding facilities following a recent expansion. These include a cardiac catheterisation laboratory, large Emergency Department, endoscopy suites and modern and contemporary inpatient units. Progress is being made towards refurbishment of the maternity and paediatric unit and a new special care nursery (increasing from 6 to 12 cots). 

 

LRH is the regional provider of mental health services in Gippsland. LRH Mental Health Service operates an integrated specialist mental health program across the region and provides inpatient and community mental health care for adults, children and young people and older persons.

The Chief Medical Officer reports to the Chief Executive Officer and works closely with other executive including the Chief Operating Officer, Executive Director of Mental Health and Chief Mental Health Nurse, Director of People and Culture and Director of Regional Services.

 

The Chief Medical Officer has four reports including a Deputy Chief Medical Officer (responsible for medical staff and pharmacy), General Manager of Medical Services (medical workforce unit, consulting suites, health information and business analysis), General Manager Governance (clinical governance, BreastScreen and volunteers) and General Manager Education Training and Research. LRH is accredited for training with RACMA and has a federally funded Medical Management Registrar position.       

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Registration to practice medicine in Australia
  • Fellowship with RACMA, AFRACMA or substantial progress towards this

Experience in Medical Administration would be essential and in the regional or rural setting desirable.

Selection Criteria Essential: MBBS or equivalent
Essential: Current practicing registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) as a Medical Practitioner
Essential: Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators or is substantially progressing towards such qualification
Essential: Proven experience in medical management and the provision of high level leadership with the ability to develop team performance and manage medical practitioners
Essential: Experience in successfully managing multiple stakeholders at all levels and forging partnerships across all areas of the health sector
Desirable: Tertiary qualification in Health Management or Business Administration
Essential: Strong communication skills both verbal and written
Desirable: Experience in both the clinical and administrative aspects of medicine in large metropolitan or regional health services and small rural health services
